At Hopkins House we know the key to long-term educational success is making sure kids get the best start possible. We also know that a strong family foundation is essential. To ensure this we've designed an innovative curriculum, assembled a team of amazing teachers and created a nurturing environment where it all comes together. And at the core of our philosophy, we believe every child - regardless of their family's income level - deserves an equal chance to this education.

This is why we are a unique school - a place where an extraordinary education, family and the support of community come together.

Hopkins House provides education programs and services to all children and their families. Through high-quality preschools, financial literacy, homeownership, parent involvement, reading and literacy, and summer enrichment programs, Hopkins House offers to children and families the skills they will need for a life time of learning.

Hopkins House was founded in 1939 by a group of concerned citizens brought together by the sudden loss of federal funding for Alexandria's only nursery serving the City's working poor. The group, composed mostly of public school teachers, met on August 7, 1939 and adopted a constitution and bylaws that formed Hopkins House.
